Description
Presented is a handwritten personal letter from “Wahoo” Sam Crawford. He wrote it out in green felt tip (“9”) to a friend (Danny Goodman) then signed and dated it to March 5, 1960. Crawford advanced this message to Danny Goodman, long the ebullient PR guy for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Wahoo” Sam Crawford was one of the greatest sluggers of his era, leading his league in home runs twice and in runs batted in three times. He still holds the MLB record for most career triples with 309, a record likely never to be broken. While with the Tigers, Crawford played alongside superstar Ty Cobb, and the two had an intense rivalry while also helping Detroit win three American League championships from 1907 to 1909.
Dear Danny,
I have read your comments in Sid Giff’s column on concerning Koufax & Drysdale & want to tell you that I agree whole hartedly with what you have said. I think they have some very bad advice from their attorney. They better get to that training camp as soon as possible. Have their heads shrunk to normal size & act like star baseball players earning plenty of money. By the way Danny Mrs. Crawford joined me in telling you that the little German clocks with the ballerina doing a pirouette still keeps perfect time. It was several years ago you gave it to us. We have enjoyed it & thank you again. With all good wishes.
Sincerely,
Wahoo Sam Crawford
