Description
Presented is an 8×10 NASA photo autographed by astronaut, Ronald E. McNair. He signed the photo in black felt tip (“9-10”). The front has a postmark with stamp – FEB. 3, 1984. On February 3, 1984, NASA’s Space Shuttle Challenger launched on its fourth mission, STS-41B, from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The mission was notable for several reasons: the first untethered spacewalk, the deployment of two communications satellites (Westar 6 and Palapa B2), and the eventual return of Challenger to the Kennedy Space Center for the first time. The photo has the official NASA stamping with caption on the verso.
Ronald E. McNair was an American NASA astronaut and physicist. He died at the age of 35 during the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger on mission STS-51-L, in which he was serving as one of three mission specialists in a crew of seven. Prior to the Challenger disaster, McNair flew as a mission specialist on STS-41-B aboard Challenger from February 3 to 11, 1984, becoming the second black American in space.
