Teenie Harris 11×14 Photo – Behind the Scenes of Martin Luther King’s Birthday Celebration
From the Depression Era through the early 1970s, Teenie Harris earned renown as a trailblazer in professional photography. His atelier was Pittsburgh where he operated an independent studio, but he plied most of his career in the service of the Courier, one of the Steel City’s dailies. Through much of his life, Pittsburgh epitomized the industrial northeast, but the city’s social composition was a dynamic quilt work of cultural diversity, and Harris’ images captured the urban flavor with a new level of skill. This snapshot features a behind the scenes look at Martin Luther King’s Birthday celebration.
