Description

Presented is a Rudy York Philadelphia Athletics game worn road flannel jersey from the 1948 season. Always threatening at the plate, the 6’1″, 210 lb. York overcame defensive troubles and jibes about his ancestry (he was half American Indian) to become a productive Major League first baseman.

This is York’s earliest known jersey and with the unique Philly style every game-used jersey collector is after one. Couple that sentimental determination with the fact that this version is from 1948 (and that it’s completely intact and in great condition), and you’ve got a serious piece of baseball history from the infield of old Shibe Park under the helm of the legendary Connie Mack.

As a York original, in the neck of the jersey is a white felt patch with his name “York” in blue chain stitch. On the inside right front tail is the “MacGregor” label with the size, “48” and adjacent is the “Mitchell & Ness” label. Above this is a white felt patch reading “2 48” in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the set number and year, respectively. On the left breast is the classic letter “A” and on the back is the player number “6.” The letter and number are made of blue on white felt. The jersey shows game-use (and aging) and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Overall, a great piece of Philadelphia Athletics history.
