Description
Presented is a 2004 Outback Bowl Ring that was given to Vernell Brown. The face of the Valadium ring features the Gators logo encircled by Pave set (48) round faceted cubic zirconias. Embossed around the top is “OUTBACK BOWL 2004” and bead set on the top is (4) 2.2mm cubic zirconias. One shank has embossed, “OUTBACK BOWL” with the logo and “TAMPA BAY”. The other side features the player name and jersey number “BROWN 16” alonside a football helmet engraved with “Gators”. It is a size 7 with a weight of 30.4 grams. The interior is engraved “YLTM” for the metal content.
During his collegiate career at the University of Florida, Vernell Brown played in 45 games, with 11 starts. He was signed as a defensive back out of high school but began his career at wide receiver and returned to cornerback during the 2003 season. Was part of the wide receiver rotation and returned punts in 2002 as a freshman. Had seven career carries for 31 yards (4.4 avg) and also caught six passes for 28 yards (4.7 avg. Had 59 career punt returns for 489 yards (8.3 avg).
The 2004 Outback Bowl featured the Florida Gators and the Iowa Hawkeyes. It was the 18th edition of the Outback Bowl. Early in the third quarter, Matt Melloy recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for an Iowa touchdown and a 27–7 lead. Florida kicked a 48-yard field goal to pull within 27–10. A Fred Russell touchdown run pushed Iowa’s lead to 34–10. Kaeding later connected on his third field goal, this one from 38 yards, increasing the lead to 37–10. Chris Leak’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Baker made the final margin 37–17 with Iowa victorious.
