Of the 140 players named In Major League Baseball, the Rookie of the Year Award is given annually to two outstanding rookie players, one each for the American League (AL) and National League (NL), as voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). Rookie of the Year (as of 2016), 16 have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame—Robinson, five AL players, and ten others from the NL. The award has been shared twice: once by Butch Metzger and Pat Zachry of the NL in 1976; and once by John Castino and Alfredo Griffin of the AL in 1979.
Presented is an ONL (White) baseball autographed by NL Rookie of the Years from the 1980’s. Signers in blue/black pen added their year of winning as an inscription. Signers include Steve Howe 1980, Steve Sax 1982, Darryl Strawberry 1983, Dwight Gooden 1984, Vince Coleman 1985, Benito Santiago 1987, Chris Sabo 1988 and Jerome Walton 1989. There’s also handwritten inventory coding on the ball itself.
