Description
The 1996 Miami Hurricanes football team represented the University of Miami during the 1996 NCAA Division I-A football season. It was the Hurricanes’ 71st season of football and sixth as a member of the Big East Conference. The Hurricanes were led by second-year head coach Butch Davis and played their home games at the Orange Bowl. They finished the season 9–3 overall and 6–1 in the Big East to finish as conference co-champion. They were invited to the Carquest Bowl where they defeated Virginia, 31–21.
This game used football from that famous 1996 Carquest Bowl originates from a team source. It’s a Wilson AFCA 1001 football.
However, what makes it special and distinct for use in this game is the stamping which reads on the ball in black, “CARQUEST BOWL – MIAMI vs. VIRGINIA – PRO PLAYER STADIUM – MIAMI, FLORIDA – DECEMBER 27, 1996” and a College Football USA logo. The ball shows indications wear on the white striping with scuffing/soiling. The ball is not holding air.
The football is a wonderful stepping stone item that was part of Hurricanes history. With every record passed, yard gained and touchdown celebrated the team as well as the coach were extraordinary. It is wonderfully displayable and a true piece of history.
