1888 Cap Anson A35 Goodwin Round Album Page

Presented is a single album page from the 1889 Goodwin “Round Album” featuring Hall of Famer Capt. Cap Anson Chicago White Stockings. This is one of the most striking and desirable pages in the set! The reverse has Anson’s statistics for the 1888 season and League schedules for the 1889 season. The page has bold colors but ultimately grades modestly. Grades Vg due to some creasing along the left edge (which does not affect the image area). The reverse is lightly toned. This is a very attractive example featuring a key Hall of Famer. Diameter: 8.25 inches.

The Goodwin Co. awarded a 12-page lithographed album via a mail-in offer as a premium to smokers of Old Judge and Dog’s Head brands. Today, we call this the “Round Album” for its shape and recognize it as one of the more amazing displays of artist accomplishment of the multitude of 19th Century tobacco offerings. Intact albums are extremely rare but the production of this album was so high quality that the single 8″ circular pages are offered individually and gladly accepted by hobbyists.  We are selling these individually.  Presented is a near complete set.  The only one that was missing was the advertisement round.  The greats of the game include Cap Anson, Charles Comiskey, Mike Kelly and Montgomery Ward on individual pages with Buck Ewing, Tim Keefe, Roger Conner and Mickey Welch sharing space along with finely detailed decorations, all grand style
