Description
According to the Elvis History, Presley’s practice of giving away scarves started in September 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona. At that show, Presley gave his green scarf to a young fan in the front row, and her joyous reaction eventually led to Presley continuing the practice.
Interestingly very few of the scarves that belong to Elvis that he tossed to female fans in his audience have made their way to the market. Presented is a white scarf that will make you feel the closest to Elvis you have ever been. Many of the scarves that have come to market have not shown great lineage. This one is part of a tremendous collection with outstanding provenance.
The lucky fan Rhonda Hazel who was given this scarf was at Elvis Presley’s concert in Champaign, IL in October of 1976. With the scarf Rhonda was also bestowed a lucky kiss from the King. Presumably, a short timeafter the intimate encounter it was autographed for another lucky fan in the ownership provenance. The autograph and salutation is light but legible on the scarf and reads: “To Martha – from Elvis Presley”. Elvis Presley’s name is also stamped in blue in the style of his autograph. The scarf is soiled throughout with stains (blood?). Overall, a true keepsake that will maintain value for generations of fans as it ages.
This scarf originated from the collection of items presented in a lot auctioned by Juliens.
