Description
Presented is an OAL (McPhail) baseball autographed by Gaylord Perry as well as Jim Perry. Jim and Gaylord Perry are the only brothers in Major League history to win Cy Young Awards. Gaylord signed it on one of the panels in black ballpoint pen (“7”) with the inscription, “Best Wishes”. Jim autographed a different panel in blue ballpoint (“6-7”) with the same inscription, “Best Wishes”. The ball itself shows toning throughout from age as well as a scuff mark.
Gaylord Perry retired in 1983 after pitching for eight teams (the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers (twice), San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals). During a 22-year baseball career, Perry compiled 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts, and a 3.11 earned run average. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his third year of eligibility in 1991. Perry, a five-time All-Star, was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in each league, winning it in the American League in 1972 with the Cleveland Indians.
