Description
These are the actual sandals that were issued by the Yankees to Mantle. These are shower shoes that protected and carried the most valuable cargo in baseball; Mickey Mantle’s fragile feet and legs. The provenance of these sandals is very strong.
“This item originally was obtained by Anthony Berento who was acquainted with Mickey Mantle and played in numerous golf outings with him” David Hunt stated.
Large off-shite composition slippers of the flip-flop variety protected the metaphorical wheels of the franchise, and each is identified as such, still displaying the legendary “7” in worn black marker as originally inked by the team trainer. The shoes were given to Tony Berento, Mickey’s longtime pal, partner, and golfing buddy, and sold by Borento as part of a heavily documented collection of genuine Mantle artifacts.
There is a photo of Mantle sitting in the locker room wearing a different style sandal, but this photo proves he did wear sandals. Of course, there were differnt styles and many sandals issued to Mantle. This is an incredible opportunity to own a piece of Mantle.
With the game-used market on Mantle Collectibles skyrocketing, we can determine that these sandals, although not worn on the field, still hold astronomical value.
