Red Grange Signed Football Bears

Very desirable and seldomly encountered signed football from the consumate prewar player and gridiron legend, whose vision and commitment put the professional game on the map and kept it there, in the sense one could divide an NFL history time-line by “Pre-Grange” and “Post-Grange.” Grange, of course, was the superstar of 1920’s collegiate sports and an All-World-type of player whose ability simply overwhelmed all opponents.

In 1925, the All-American joined Halas’s Chicago Bears the day after his last college game; agreeing to a sold-out 19-games-in-67-days barnstorming tour credited with legitimizing pro football and providing the most significant step in establishing both the respectability and popularity of a league which had previously been viewed as a refuge for less admirable players.

Presented is an Official Wilson NFL (Rozelle) football bearing a huge ENHANCED autograph from The Galloping Ghost rendered in heavy black marker, “Red” Grange. It is showcased on the top portion of a blank panel, presenting collectors with a tremendous display and a wonderful example of a very tough autograph in this format. The football has some aging/fading with the rare signature projecting in strength a “9”.
