1959 All-Stars – New York Yankees – Elston Howard & Yogi Berra 11×14 Photo (Original Print From Teenie Harris Estate – From the Pittsburgh Courier Archives)
Charles “Teenie” Harris was a trailblazer in professional photography. The African American artist’s atelier was in Pittsburgh where he operated an independent studio, but he plied most of his career in the service of the Pittsburgh Courier, the leading black Steel City newspaper of the time. It was a chronicle of a vibrant urban community during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras. In his images, he captured the city’s urban flavor in everyday experiences as well as people who shaped the 20th century – stars like Lena Horne, Jackie Robinson, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Currently, the Carnegie Museum of Art is entrusted with many of his negatives archives. With permission from his estate many of these iconic images are now available and are presented for enjoyment.
This gorgeous 11×14 black and white image by Teenie captures the essence of two Yankee favorites at their best. Stamped on the back as a genuine Teenie photo with permission from the Pittsburgh Courier Archives.
