Presented is an autographed piece of parchment featuring members of the New York Yankees on the front and back. Most notably, it features autographs of Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. Presumably, this was autographed during a Spring Training cycle from the late 1930’s into the early 1940’s . The paper features the signatures of members of the World Series Champion New York Yankees teams from that sellar era including players, coaching staff, along with other spring training participants.
The blue paper (4.5″ x 5.5″) was primarily signed in blue pen (“9”) by the majority of the signers but the highlight autograph was Lou Gehrig in red pen (“9”). Other signers on the same side as Gehrig include: Joe Gallagher; Frankie Crosetti; Marv Breuer; Charles “Red” Ruffing; Atley Donald and George Washburn. The other side features autographs of Bill Matheson; Marius Russo; Wes Ferrell; Lefty Gomez; George Selkirk; Tommy Henrich; Joe DiMaggio; Babe Dahlgren and Al Piechota.
Many of the teammates were part of the 1941 World Series Championship team. The 1941 New York Yankees season was the 39th season for the team. New York was managed by Joe McCarthy. The Yankees played their home games at Yankee Stadium. The team finished with a record of 101–53, winning their 12th pennant, finishing 17 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox. In the World Series, they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in 5 games.
