Description
How some of us thirst for the days of yore – the Cardinals belong in Chicago, the Rams in L. A. – but perhaps our deepest anguish is reserved for the Colts. Despite their many exciting performances in Indianapolis since, the cradle of this magnificent franchise traces to the shores of Chesapeake Bay. They are the Baltimore Colts, dammit. By 1956, the Colts were relative newcomers to the NFL, and their station through much of the decade was one of modesty – that is, until 1958 and 1959, when they won championships predicated in large part on the 25 who signed this roster 1956 sheet. The medium is an 8″ x 10″ that’s in somewhat reduced condition with a couple transparent stains and multiple creases. However, one determined admirer captured the penciled autographs of those Colts. All of the signings appear on one side; all are clean and readily legible (all “8” or stronger) to include 1954 Heisman Trophy-winner, trong>Alan Ameche, along with rookies Trong>Johnny Unitas and Trong>Lenny Moore, as well as the now Canton-enshrined trong>Don Shula and trong>Raymond Berry. Continuing, we find the autographs of Dick Chorovich, Doug Eggers, Tom Finnin, Jim Harness, Ken Jackson, Don Joyce, Bill Koman, Jim Mutscheller, Dick Nyers, Howard (Herky) Payne, Bill Pellington, John Polzer, Dean Renfro, Don Schmidt, Charles Shepard, Art Spinney, Bill Sutton, Carl Taseff, Jesse Thomas and Dick Young.
