Description
Presented is a Utah Jazz Karl Malone game worn road jersey from the 2001-02 season. It showcases an elaborate mountain scene along with the team name “JAZZ” across the chest in blue-and-purple stitching on white tackle twill. The upper right chest of the jersey features red, white and blue ribbon patch with an American flag, worn that season to honor the victims of 9/11, opposite the NBA logo patch.
On the back, “MALONE” is in white letters, with his number “32” appearing on both sides in white on orange-and-green tackle twill. The front tail of the jersey features a Champion Utah Jazz exclusivity tag manufacturer’s tag with [size] 52 and an affixed tag – “+4 LENGTH.” To the left is another stitched “Champion” tag with the Utah Jazz logo and an affixed tag that reads “2001-2002.” The jersey shows tremendous use throughout with soft malleable tagging and loose threading. It includes a handwritten letter from the team equipment manager for provenance. Overall, a great gamer from a top tier Hall of Fame Basketball player.
The Mailman, Karl Malone was arguably the greatest power forward to play the game. He was a two-time NBA MVP who earned 14 All-Star appearances and was named one of the 50 greatest players in league history in 1996. In October 2021, Malone was again honored as one of the league’s greatest players of all time by being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. In 2007, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010 twice – for his individual career, and as a member of the 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball team.
