Prestented is a Gary Sheffield game worn jersey from 2009. The jersey was worn on April 15th, against the San Diego Padres. That day all the Major League Baseball players are wearing #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson day. In the game Sheffield went, 2-1 with a walk and scored a run.
Across the chest reads, “Mets” in blue on orange on black triple tackle twill. On the front left tail is a “Majestic” size “50” manufacturer’s tag. On the left seam is a “Majestic COOL BASE” tag. On the left inseam is a 0063 coding tag with washing instructions.
Player number “42” appears on the front and on the back. All numbering is in the matching blue on orange on black triple tackle twill. Above where the nameplate would be by the back collar is an official “MLB” logo embroidered. On the right sleeve is a “INAUGURAL SEASON 2009” patch and on the left sleeve is a Mets’ team logo disc patch and a “Majestic” logo embroidered below. This jersey is properly tagged and shows excellent use with soiling from the field throughout.

On April 3, Sheffield agreed to a deal with the New York Mets for the 2009 season, and he finalized the deal the following day. On April 17, Sheffield hit his 500th home run in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, becoming the 25th player in MLB history to reach that milestone, the first player to achieve this as a pinch-hitter, and the first to do so in a Mets uniform. Sheffield would also become the third player in Major League history to hit home runs before age 20 and after age 40, joining Ty Cobb and Rusty Staub.
