Description

Frances L. Janssen [″Big Red″, or ″Little Red″] (January 25, 1926 – November 27, was an American pitcher who played from 1948 through 1952 in the All-American Girls Professional she batted and threw right-handed. Janssen was promoted to the Peoria Redwings in 1950 and ended up pitching for the Fort Wayne Daisies in the postseason. 

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women’s baseball league founded by Philip K. Wrigley which existed from 1943 to 1954. The AAGPBL is the forerunner of women’s professional league sports in the United States. Over 600 women played in the league. It was not really a well-known fact until filmmaker Penny Marshall premiered her 1992 film A League of Their Own.

 

Presented is an unofficial MacGregor baseball autographed by Frances Janssen.  She signed it (Frances Janssen Fort Wayne Daisies 48 – 52) on the side panel in blue ballpoint pen (“9”).
