Description
Mickey Mantle was a wild child to say the least, and the stories from his MLB days are endless. He began his days with a big glass of what he called the “breakfast of champions.” It consisted of brandy, Kahlua and cream. Many times he and teammate Billy Martin would walk into Mantle’s restaurant on Central Park South and order the drink to kick off a full day of boozing. Regardless of Mantle’s wildness, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974, and will forever be a baseball legend of the game. The seven-time World Series champion constructed one of the best careers in baseball history.
Presented is a rare opportunity to own a collectible from Mantle’s later but sober days. It also marks a pivotal point in Mantle’s life beyond the game of baseball. It is an Alcoholics Anonymous AA book (a.k.a. Big Book) that Mickey Mantle signed and personalized to a fellow sober compadre. The interior page was signed in blue ballpoint, “Joel – Thanks for being a Good Friend.”
