Description
The New York Mets superstar catcher Mike Piazza ordered his custom-made bats from Mizuno, hence the “MP” model stamped in the knob (and, of course, the “Mike Piazza” in block lettering on the barrel). He knew how to use them too, and is often called the greatest offensive catcher in the game’s history.
This bat was game used by Mike Piazza. The Mizuno ash bat is a Pro Ltd from the 1999 season. It measures 34.5″ and weighs 30.9 oz. The knob and barrel end features a “31” in black marker. It is uncracked and shows evidence of excellent use. There are ball marks aplenty as well as scuffs and light pine tar on the handle portion. It was authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA bats GU 8.
For added value, the bat was autographed in black felt tip (“9”) by 13 players including Mike Piazza, Frank Thomas, Barry Bonds and many others.
Mike Piazza is regarded as one of the best offensive catchers in baseball history. He had at least one RBI in 15 straight games for the Mets in 2000, the second-longest RBI streak ever. In 2013, the Mets inducted Piazza into the New York Mets Hall of Fame. In 2016, Piazza was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, receiving 82.95% of the vote and wearing a Mets hat in his plaque.
