Description
The New York Mets superstar catcher Mike Piazza ordered his custom-made bats from Mizuno, hence the “MP” model stamped in the knob (and, of course, the “Mike Piazza” in block lettering on the barrel). He knew how to use them too, and is often called the greatest offensive catcher in the game’s history.
This bat was game used by Mike Piazza. It is a Mizuno ash bat and is a Pro Ltd from the 2000-01 labeling period. It measures 34.5″ and weighs 30.2 oz. Both ends have number “31” in black marker. It is uncracked and shows evidence of excellent use. There are ball marks aplenty as well as scuffs and pine tar on the handle portion. It was authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA bats GU 8.
For added value, the bat was autographed in black felt tip (“9”) by four players including Mike Piazza, Rafael Palmeiro, Todd Helton and Jose Canseco.
Mike Piazza is regarded as one of the best offensive catchers in baseball history. He had at least one RBI in 15 straight games for the Mets in 2000, the second-longest RBI streak ever. In 2013, the Mets inducted Piazza into the New York Mets Hall of Fame. In 2016, Piazza was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, receiving 82.95% of the vote and wearing a Mets hat in his plaque.
