Description
As imposing as the imagery itself is, this color print, reiterating that most famous tableau in the history of the ring game, is dimensioned to the ultimate. The scene, of course, is an unforgiving Ali towering over the vanquished Sonny Liston…or so it seems. In fact, this was in the first round of the 1965 return-bout between those adversaries, and the camera’s report following the now-known “phantom punch.” Ali didn’t recognize it as a knockdown and failed to retreat to a neutral corner. But Liston lay prostrate for over 20 seconds and referee Jersey Joe Walcott awarded the contest to the Louisville Lip. Meanwhile, the photograph drew global cult admiration and its reproductions have served as the most ideal image to accommodate Ali’s autograph.
This color “Ali over Liston” 16.5″ x 20.5″ photo has been signed by the greatest of all time in beautiful gold ink (“9-10″). It is presented within a display that measures 20.5″ x 25.5”.
